Haiku
A haiku is a tiny poem from Japan. It has 3 lines with 5, 7 and 5 syllables (beats). It is often about nature, a season, or one small moment.
Play Shop
Your money (tap to use):

Pretend money drawn for play โ€” not real coin or note designs. Prices use each currency's smallest coin in everyday use (e.g. Canada has no penny, so CAD prices end in 0 or 5).

Vowels: A E I O U

1. Vowels and consonants

The alphabet has 5 vowels: A, E, I, O, U. All the other letters are consonants. Tap a letter to hear its name.

2. Every syllable has a vowel sound

Vowels are the "voice" of a word. Your mouth opens on the vowel โ€” that is the beat you clap! ๐Ÿ‘

3. Short and long sounds

Each vowel has a short sound and a long sound. The long sound says the letter's own name. Tap to hear.

4. Magic e โœจ

Put a silent e on the end and it makes the vowel say its name. The e itself stays quiet!

5. Y can be a helper vowel

At the end of a word, y can sing a vowel sound:

Syllables
Hi! I'm Polly. Let's clap the beats!
